Car prowl suspect struck by car on I-5

On February 4 at approximately 12:56 p.m. officers responded to the report of a possible car prowl in progress near the intersection of 6 Avenue and Marion Street. The first responding officer arrived and approached the victim vehicle and saw the suspect still inside the vehicle. The officer ordered the suspect out of the vehicle at which time the suspect took off running. The officer attempted to apply his taser but the taser application was ineffective. The suspect continued to run southbound and then turned eastbound and ran to a railing. The suspect climbed over the railing and dropped down about 15 feet to Interstate 5 below. The officer went over to the railing and saw the suspect running northbound on I-5. The officer then lost sight of the suspect. Shortly thereafter SPD received a 911 call of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision on I-5 northbound. SPD and WSP responded to that scene and verified that the suspect who had run from our officer was struck by a motorist traveling northbound on I-5. The suspect was transported to Harborview with life-threatening injuries. SPD continues to investigate the car prowl and related crimes while WSP investigates the traffic collision.
