Light rail train vs. vehicle collision

On June 29 at approximately 5:10 p.m. officers responded to a collision involving a light rail train and a Chrysler PT Cruiser. Preliminary investigation indicates that the adult male driver of the Chrysler was traveling southbound on MLK Jr. Way South and made an unlawful left turn against a red traffic signal into the path of a southbound light rail train at South Myrtle Street. The Chrysler was struck on its driver’s side. The only occupant of the Chrysler was the driver, who was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The only occupant of the train was the operator, who was not injured. The train sustained minor damage.

The driver of the Chrysler was cited for a red light violation. Seattle Police continue to actively investigate the collision.
