Vehicle vs. bicycle injury collision

On August 6th at approximately 12:45 p.m. officers responded to the 200 block of NE 45th Street for a vehicle versus bicycle collision. A white 1988 Nissan SUV was stopped facing west in the center turn lane, waiting to turn left into a driveway on the south side of NE 45th Street. A motorist traveling in an eastbound lane of travel stopped. The Nissan began executing a left turn and was struck on the passenger side by a bicyclist traveling eastbound on NE 45th Street.

SFD Medics responded to the scene and transported the 26-year-old male bicyclist to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Officers evaluated the 35-year-old male driver of the Nissan and determined he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The driver was interviewed and released pending further investigation.

There were no citations issued at the scene, which is standard procedure in serious traffic collisions requiring extensive follow-up investigation and collision reconstruction. Traffic Collision Investigation Squad detectives responded to the scene and continue to actively investigate.
