Man found dead near James and Terry

Posted by SPD Media Relations

At approximately 2:29 a.m., a security guard working in the area called 911 to report that he had just heard three (3) gunshots near the 900 block of Cherry Street.  Officers responded and eventually located a victim in his truck parked on the east side of the 76 gas station in the 900 block of James Street.  The victim, a man in his fifties, suffered what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head.

The crime scene was secured.  An area check and K9 track were conducted with negative results.  Homicide and CSI both responded to interview the witness and process the crime scene for evidence.

Detectives do not believe this murder to be a random act.  They are actively investigating.
