Two-vehicle collision with injuries

On May 20th at approximately 11:10 p.m. officers responded to a two-vehicle collision with injuries.  Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect, a 60-year-old male, was driving northbound in the 2000 block of Eastlake Avenue East when he struck an unoccupied, parked Jeep.

The suspect vehicle, a 2000 Honda Civic, was occupied by three passengers, two adult males and one adult female.  Two of the occupants of the Honda had to be extricated from the vehicle by the fire department.  All four occupants of the Honda were transported to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.  The suspect/driver is being investigated for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

One northbound lane of Eastlake Avenue East has been shut down at Newton Street.  As of 2:00 a.m., that part of the street is estimated to be closed to traffic for at least another hour.

No citations have been issued, which is standard procedure in serious collisions that involve extensive follow up investigation and traffic collision reconstruction.

Traffic Collision Investigation Squad detectives responded to the scene and continue to actively investigate.
