Foot pursuit, gun tossed in Rainier Valley

On June 28th, shortly after 8:00 PM, a South Precinct officer was patrolling the streets when he observed what he believed  to be  a domestic violence incident  near 48th Avenue South and South Henderson Street.  The officer stopped to investigate and interview the male and female who had been arguing and crying on the street.    The officer attempted to contact the man, but the suspect took off running.  While chasing the suspect, the officer observed him trying to remove something from his waist area.  The officer was able to see that it was a gun as he continued chasing him northbound to Rainier Avenue South and South Cloverdale Street.  The suspect entered a locked courtyard and threw the gun over the fence.  The suspect, an 18 year old male was taken into custody.  The handgun, a .22 caliber pistol, was recovered from behind the fence.  The suspect was booked into the King County Jail for Unlawful Weapon Possession.  The female half of the disturbance did not want to cooperate further with the investigation.
