Suspicious object in park in South Seattle

On December 29th at approximately 2:53 p.m. a male suspect attempted to rob a bank in the 2500 block of Beacon Avenue South.  The suspect handed the teller a note and implied he had an explosive device in a bag he was carrying.  When the suspect didn’t get what he wanted, he left the bank with the bag in hand.  At approximately 5:30 p.m. officers responded to information that there was a bag containing a suspected explosive device in a park in the 2200 block of MLK Way South.

Responding officers located a suspicious bag in the park, sealed off the area and called Arson/Bomb Squad (ABS) detectives to the scene.  ABS detectives responded to the park and rendered the object safe.

This remains an active and on-going investigation.
