On May 28th at approximately 8:12 p.m. officers responded to 28th Avenue South and South Jackson Street to investigate a report of shots fired. Preliminary investigation indicates that there were several shots exchanged between two groups of people hanging out either in or near Floware Park. This exchange of gunfire may have been precipitated by an exchange of words between the two groups. The involved suspects then fled the scene and remain at large.
During the shootout an elderly female walking near the park dropped to the ground to avoid being hit by gunfire. As she dropped to the ground she injured her wrist.
SFD medics responded to the scene to treat the injured female. She was then transported to Harborview Medical Center by ambulance for follow up evaluation and treatment.
Investigation indicates thus far that nobody was hit or injured by the gunfire itself and no property damage was located.
Gang Unit detectives responded to the scene and continue to actively investigate.
