SPD statement regarding terror arrest

This statement was released today to the Seattle Police Department’s various demographic advisory councils and community stakeholders:

As a community leader, we would like to tell you about a recent arrest that you may have already heard about in the news.  Last night, members of the Seattle Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Joint Terrorism Task Force arrested two subjects who were planning a terrorist act within the City of Seattle.  These subjects intended to use automatic weapons and hand grenades to kill innocent people at a local military facility.

We would like to reiterate that this investigation was based on the individuals’ behaviors and actions and that their behaviors and action are not reflective of any ethnicity or religion. Public trust is an essential component to fighting crime.  This plot was foiled because a member of our community felt safe in presenting this information to a Seattle Police detective. Because of our strong partnership with the communities in Seattle, everyone was able to do their job with dedication and professionalism.

Community members are reminded to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviors or activities by calling 911 – if you see something, say something.
