Disturbance, weapons arrest in Rainier Valley

On Tuesday, October 4th, at approximately 11:30 am, South Precinct officers responded to reports of shots fired and a possible shooting at Rainier Avenue South and South Mead Street.  The disturbance involved a group of 4-5 juvenile males who all fled on foot after shots were reportedly fired.  Witnesses provided updates on the direction everyone was running.

Officers eventually ended up at an apartment complex in the 5900 Block of Rainier Avenue South.  Witnesses pointed out an apartment that several males ran into right after the incident, and officers contacted a number of people inside the apartment.  There was information from witnesses that one of the individuals may have been shot and officers were checking on their welfare.  It was soon discovered that no one had been shot, although a nearby parked car was damaged by bullets.

Gang detectives who responded to the scene obtained consent to search the apartment from the residents and recovered two handguns.  One of the guns was reported stolen, and the other had the serial number on it destroyed.  One of the males inside the apartment admitted to owning the guns.  He was arrested and later booked into the King County Jail for a weapons violation.  Detectives will continue to follow up on this incident.
