Commercial Vehicle Enforcement today

On January 3rd officers from the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Squad conducted 12 commercial vehicle inspections.  Five vehicles received certification stickers for no violations. 

Seven vehicles had a combined total of 24 documented violations: 

Conspicuity (lights, markers) – 6

Light ID marker – 4

Air Brake leak – 3

Steering fluid  – 1

Faulty wiring harness – 2

Unsecured load – 1

Fire extinguisher – 1

Lights (head, tail, turn) – 1

Battery – 1

Registration/Expired Tonnage – 2

No Proof of Insurance – 1

No Company marking – 1

Tickets were issued for the following violations:

Stop sign (Fail to Stop)

Wrong way on a one way street

No valid driver’s license

No Proof of Insurance

No Medical card   

The documented violations will be forwarded to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and will count as “strikes” against the company, the driver and the carrier.

The Seattle Police Department encourages all commercial motor vehicle operators to be familiar with and obey all local and state laws and all federal motor carrier safety regulations.
