Eluding, vehicle collision into building at Denny Way/Boren Avenue

On Monday, March 5th, at approximately 11:45 pm, a West Precinct officer on patrol observed a green 1998 Mazda 626 driving in a reckless manner, speeding and running through red lights.  The officer pulled in behind the car on Denny Way travelling east and activated her emergency equipment in her patrol car in an attempt to stop the vehicle.  The Mazda appeared as if it was going to yield to the officer, but instead accelerated, continuing to drive recklessly.  The officer terminated her pursuit but could see the Mazda crest the hill approaching Boren Avenue, appear to lose control, and eventually crash into a business located on the southwest corner of Boren Avenue and Denny Way.

Officers responded to the collision and contacted the 25 year old female driver.  She was treated at the scene by Seattle Fire personnel and transported to Harborview Medical Center for her injuries.  The driver was later evaluated at the hospital by a Drug Recognition Expert officer and it was determined that the driver was likely under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) responded to the scene and began their investigation.  This remains an active and ongoing TCIS investigation.
