Vice detective and North Pct. officers arrest man who attempted to lure a child

On March 5th 2012, at approximately 11:15 a.m., the mother of a 12-year-old male contacted a detective in the Vice Unit and stated she that wanted to discuss a case involving her 12-year-old son. The detective read the report and contacted the Complainant. The Complainant stated that her son; attends a local middle school and rides the Metro bus to and from school and also uses the bus as his normal mode of transportation.

On Friday March 2nd, at approximately 3:00 p.m., the 12-year-old victim was headed home after school and was waiting for the bus at Aurora Av N and N 105 St, when he was contacted by an unknown male.  The man started talking with the victim and stood very close to him. The suspect asked the victim his name and age.  The suspect then told the victim that he was his father.

The victim answered the suspect’s questions and told him that he was 12-years-old. The suspect continued to speak with victim and stood very close to him, within a few inches and the victim stated that this made him very uncomfortable and he no longer wanted to talk to the man.

The victim stated that when he stopped talking the man became upset and began talking very loud and acted belligerent. The suspect continued to tell the victim that he was his father (suspect is not the victim’s father). The Metro coach arrived and the victim boarded and the suspect followed him. The victim walked to the rear of the bus and stood near the rear exit doors and the suspect continued to follow the victim, passing up numerous empty seats. The suspect sat near the victim.

The suspect continued to engage the victim in conversation, repeatedly telling the victim that he (suspect) was his father. The suspect told the victim that he should come to the park with him and “catch up on things”. The suspect pointed towards Woodland Park as the coach passed that location.

The coach arrived at the victim’s stop and as the victim was getting off the bus, the suspect told him that if he ever wanted to see him (suspect) again he could just ride this coach.

On March 6th 2012, at approximately 1:15 p.m., the Vice Detective created a SPD bulletin based on the detailed description of the suspect. The bulletin was distributed to officers and King County Metro as well.

On March 6th 2012, just shortly before 3:00 p.m., the detective received a phone call from the complainant stating that she believed the suspect was walking southbound on Aurora Av N and N 97 ST and he wearing the same clothing that her son described. The detective and North Precinct officers quickly responded and contacted the suspect at Aurora Av N and N 90 ST.

The suspect was contacted and detained. The detective transported the victim to the scene and he positively identified the suspect.  The suspect was arrested and transported to the North Precinct.

While the detective was gathering the suspect’s clothing for evidence, the suspect threatened the detective and stated that he was going to “shoot him in the head and smoke him when he got the chance”. The 44-year-old suspect was booked into King County Jail for Child Luring and an outstanding Harassment Warrant.
