Two-Vehicle Head On Collision on Aurora Ave North

On March 13th at approximately 6:00 p.m. an officer on patrol witnessed a two-vehicle, head on collision just north of the Aurora Avenue Bridge.  Preliminary investigation indicates that a box truck driven by a 24-year-old male was traveling southbound on Aurora Avenue North.  An SUV driven by a male in his 70’s was traveling northbound.  Near North 38th Street the box truck crossed the centerline and struck the northbound SUV head on causing the SUV to overturn.

SFD medics responded to the scene and transported the male in his 70’s to Harborview Medical Center (HMC) with non-life-threatening injuries.  The 24-year-old male was transported by ambulance to HMC with non-life-threatening injuries.  There were no other occupants on board either vehicle.

The driver of the box truck is being investigated for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Upon his release from HMC the box truck driver will be booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Vehicular Assault.

Traffic Collision Investigation Squad detectives responded to the scene and continue to actively investigate.

*Southbound traffic is open and northbound traffic is open to Metro only.  The road is estimated to be completely open both ways at approximately 9:00 p.m.
