Report of shots fired on Broadway, officers find stolen car instead

Yesterday at 5:20 pm East Precinct officers responded to a report of a man shooting a gun out of the side of a maroon Dodge Intrepid.  A witness reported that they saw the suspect park the car in a parking lot in the 500 Block of Broadway.  Officers arrived and found the car in question, unoccupied.  The officers checked the license plate and it came back as a stolen car out of Lynnwood.  The witness had provided a description of the occupants of the car and officers saw a man matching the description of one of them. He was stopped and questioned by the officers.  He identified himself, and after his name was checked, it was revealed that he was a suspect in the theft of the Dodge.

Prior to that information, the suspect told officers that he was driving the car and that his friend was sitting in the passenger seat.  He stated that his friend had leaned out of the car and fired an “Airsoft” BB gun twice.  The suspect told officers that his friend had put the BB gun under the passenger seat, and that they had both walked away from the car when they saw the police car coming.  The 36 year old suspect was arrested and later booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Auto Theft.  The car was impounded.
