Sound Transit Bus Driver Strikes Female Pedestrian

A woman in her 50’s was struck by a Sound Transit bus in the International District today.  At about 5:33 p.m. officers responded to a pedestrian/bus collision in the 700 block of 5th Avenue South.  Preliminary investigation indicates that the victim pedestrian, a woman in her 50’s, was crossing 5th Avenue South in the 700 block from west to east in a marked crosswalk.  At the same time a Sound Transit articulated bus was traveling southbound in the 700 block of 5th Avenue South and maneuvered around a Metro bus that was stopped at the west side curb facing southbound.  As the Sound Transit bus entered the crosswalk that was just south of the stopped Metro coach, the Sound Transit operator struck the victim pedestrian, knocking her to the ground.

SFD medics responded to the scene and transported the victim to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Sound Transit bus driver was cited for Inattention to Driving.
