UPDATE-4th Avenue South Bridge is now reopened in both directions. This remains an active and on-going TCIS investigation.
Officers responded to a report of a head on collision this morning on the 4th Avenue South Bridge at about 7:45 am. Seattle Police and Seattle Fire arrived and located a black Cadillac that had crossed the center line and collided with two cars that had been travelling northbound on 4th Avenue South. SFD had to extricate the driver of the Cadillac and he was taken to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The other motorists involved in the collision had minor injuries.
Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) responded and have taken over the investigation. The 4th Avenue South Bridge is closed during this investigation, and this will impact traffic conditions in the immediate area. Officers are detouring traffic on 4th Avenue South at South Dawson Street and South Industrial Way. This remains an active and on-going investigation and the bridge will probably be closed for some time. We will update this post when the roadway is reopened.
