Stand Off in North Seattle Resolved Peacefully

SWAT team arrests a male suspect holed up in an apartment who refused to surrender for hours.  Shortly after 9:00 a.m. the adult female victim woke up to find the male suspect in her apartment in the 9000 block of Greenwood Avenue North (the victim and suspect have a past relationship and a child in common).  Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect refused to allow the victim to leave and was harassing her.  The victim was finally able to leave her apartment with her child.  She went to a relative’s house nearby and called 911.

Officers arrived on scene at the apartment in the 9000 block of Greenwood Avenue North and discovered the suspect was still inside the residence.  The suspect refused to come outside and refused to surrender to officers.

Negotiators and the SWAT team were called to the scene.  Negotiators established contact with the suspect and talked to him for several hours however, the suspect refused to surrender.

At approximately 4:00 p.m. SWAT officers approached the apartment and spoke with the suspect through the front door.  The SWAT officers successfully convinced the suspect to give himself up.  The suspect stepped outside and was taken into custody without further incident.

The suspect, a male believed to be in his 30’s, was transported to an area hospital for a mental health evaluation.  The suspect faces potential charges of Burglary, Unlawful Imprisonment and Harassment.

Nobody was injured throughout the incident, which remains under active investigation.
