Man arrested for assaulting 2 people

Two people assaulted following a disturbance on 5th Av S. On November 11th, at approximately 9:20 p.m., officers responded to a fight in progress at the American Hotel, located at 520 S. King St.  While enroute, officers reported seeing 12 people fighting in the street in the 400 block of 5 Av S, right around the corner from the American Hotel.  Upon arrival officers saw a man clinging to the side of a wheelchair.

Officers were able to arrest the suspect to prevent further assaults.  The victims had apparently been accosted by the suspect as they left Joe’s Bar as he sought a cigarette.  When his request was denied, he jumped one victim, knocking him to the ground.  Moments later he was kicking the prone victim, including kicks to the head.  The victim’s friend, a wheelchair bound male, wheeled in between in an attempt to stop the assault.  That male was pulled from his wheelchair and also assaulted with a barrage of kicks; including one to his face.  Bystanders attempted to intercede.

One victim was transported to an area hospital for evaluation, the other one, despite kicks to the head, declined medical aid, but later asked to be dropped off at Harborview Medical Center.

The suspect, a 34-year-old man was booked into King County Jail for two counts of felony assault.
