Suspicious Package Delivered to Bank Just Doesn’t Add Up

A downtown bank plus a mysterious package equaled an exciting afternoon for SPD’s Arson/Bomb Squad.

A suspicious-looking package was delivered to a bank at 3rd Avenue and University Street, around 12:30 p.m. Thursday, and employees became concerned after they felt metal inside of the package, and called 911.

Officers arrived and evacuated the bank, while Arson/Bomb Squad detectives brought in a bomb-sniffing dog to try to figure out if the package was dangerous.

When the dog didn’t detect anything explosive in the package, detectives removed the package from the bank, opened it up, and found a book and a calculator inside.

It turns out a former employee of the bank had borrowed both the items from the bank, and had simply tried to return them in the mail.

Detectives hit the all clear button and left the bank.
