Train/pedestrian collision investigation in South Seattle

Detectives are investigating a light rail train/pedestrian collision that occurred tonight at around 5:40 pm.  The pedestrian has life-threatening injuries, and was transported to Harborview Medical Center.

Officers were called to a light rail train/pedestrian collision tonight near the Columbia City station located near Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and South Edmunds Street.  According to witnesses, it appears that an adult  male pedestrian was attempting to cross Martin Luther King Jr. Way westbound at South Edmunds.

The pedestrian was struck by the train as it was leaving the station,  and the impact caused the victim to end up  under the train before it was able to stop.   Seattle Fire responded and was able to remove the victim from under the train. The victim was transported to HMC with life-threatening injuries.

Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) responded to the scene and began their investigation.  This remains an active and on-going investigation.
