Injury Collision Investigation on University Bridge

Detectives are investigating a two-car collision with significant life-threatening injuries that occurred last night on the University Bridge.

Last night, at about 6:45 pm, a Volkswagen Passat was travelling southbound on the University Bridge.  As the Passat approached the mid-span of the bridge, a Toyota MR2 that was travelling northbound crossed the center line and collided with the Passat.

Officers and Seattle Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and treated both drivers for their injuries.  The driver of the Toyota was transported to Harborview Medical Center with significant life-threatening injuries.  The driver of the Passat was also transported to Harborview for injuries.

A Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer responded to the hospital in an attempted to evaluate the Toyota driver for any signs of impairment.  A blood draw was obtained and submitted into evidence.

Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) responded and processed the scene.  The bridge was closed for several hours while the initial investigation took place at the scene.  The bridge has since reopened.  TCIS will continue to handle the follow up investigation.
