Man Slashed on Neck During Fight Downtown

A verbal altercation that escalated into a physical fight ended with one man cut on the neck with a box cutter.

At approximately 1:20 a.m. this morning officers responded to a fight disturbance in the 900 block of Stewart Street.  Preliminary investigation indicates that two men, both adults, got into a verbal altercation inside of a pizza restaurant.  One of the men (the suspect) was kicked out of the restaurant.  At some point the other man went outside to smoke a cigarette.  Once on the sidewalk the suspect and victim exchanged words again and the verbal altercation escalated into a physical fight with both men on the ground.  At some point the suspect slashed the victim on the neck with a box cutter.  The two men were separated by citizens prior to officers’ arrival.

Fire department medics responded to the scene and transported the victim to Harborview Medical Center (HMC) with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers placed the suspect under arrest and transported him to the King County Jail where he was declined due to a previously unknown and non-visible head injury.  Officers then transported the suspect to HMC for follow up treatment where he remains under police guard.  Upon release from HMC the suspect will be booked into the King County Jail for Felony Assault.

Officers recovered the suspect’s box cutter which was booked into evidence.
