Two Good Samaritans Detain Robbery Suspect

A man was arrested last night following an attempted robbery in Belltown. On 4/10/13, just shortly before 10:00 p.m. the victim was walking southbound from Belltown in the 1900 block of 2nd Ave when she noticed an unknown male walking behind her. The man was keeping pace with the victim.  The woman became nervous so she took out her earphones and pulled out her cell phone.

The suspect walked up to the victim and asked her the time.  She told him the time and he walked away.  Less than two minutes later, the suspect grabbed the victim’s purse strap and tried to pull the purse away.  The victim struggled with the suspect and kicked him.  The suspect then punched the victim in the head.

Two citizens saw what was happening and came to the victim’s assistance.  They detained the suspect while the victim contacted the first officer she saw (a WSP trooper working off-duty).  The trooper detained the suspect until SPD officers arrived.  The suspect was arrested and booked into King County Jail for Investigation of Robbery.
