Bank Robber Takes Girlfriend Hostage At North Seattle Motel

A suspected bank robber took his girlfriend and pitbull hostage at a north Seattle motel Sunday after police showed up at the motel to arrest him on a warrant.

Officers had gone to the motel on N. 133rd Street and Stone Way Sunday afternoon looking for the man, suspected of robbing a Key Bank and fleeing on a bike earlier this month. At the motel, officers learned he was sharing a room with a woman—who is also wanted on a misdemeanor warrant—and called for backup.

When police contacted the pair Sunday, the suspected bank robber told officers his girlfriend was now his hostage. The pair are now locked inside their third-floor motel room, accompanied by a pitbull.

SWAT and police negotiators are on-scene and have evacuated the third floor of the motel.

We’ll update this post with more information as this develops.

Update @ 4:53 pm— Officers were able to get the woman to come out of the motel room. Police are still talking with the bank robber.

Update:  Shortly after 7:00 pm, police negotiators convinced the robbery suspect to give himself up.  The man came out of the room and was taken into custody without incident.  He was then transported to the Robbery Unit office where he was interviewed by detectives and then will be booked into jail.  Officers have made arrangements for someone to take care of the dog.
