Officers Quickly Recover Abducted Child Downtown

Seattle Police recovered an abducted child downtown today 28 minutes after receiving the 911 call.

It all started at approximately 2:55 p.m. when officers responded to a 911 report of an adult female suspect who took a 2 ½ year old child from Mary’s Place shelter located in the 1800 block of 9th Avenue.  The suspect, mother and child were all in the shelter’s common area along with numerous other adults and children.  The mother turned away from her child for a moment and the suspect left the building with the child in an unknown direction.

Multiple officers responded to the call and began an intensive and well-coordinated search.

Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) officers, who responded to assist with the search, located the suspect and child at 7th Avenue and Olive Way at 3:23 p.m., approximately 28 minutes after Seattle Police received the initial 911 call.

The child was unharmed.  The child’s mother was brought to the scene and reunited with her child.

The 33-year-old female suspect was placed under arrest and subsequently booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Kidnapping.
