The body of a woman was found on the railroad tracks in the 3500 Block of 5th Avenue South (near 5 Ave S and South Spokane Street) early this morning. Detectives are investigating.
At around 5:15 this morning, a train engineer who was on the tracks called 911 after he saw what appeared to be a female body on the tracks. Officers responded and confirmed that the woman was deceased. It does not appear that she had been struck by a train. Detectives from the Homicide and Assault Unit responded and are investigating. Train service along that portion of the tracks has been suspended while the scene is being processed. SPD is working closely with railroad officials to get the tracks open as quickly as possible.
