Man Enraged By Complimentary Jail Footwear Decides to Go Back For Seconds

There’s an old joke: two elderly women are at a Catskill mountain resort, and one of them says, “Boy, the food at this place is really terrible.” The other one says, “Yeah, I know; and such small portions.”

Police are now working to determine if either of those women are related to a 35-year-old man who was so enraged by the complimentary footwear he received from the King County Jail earlier this week, that he decided to go back for seconds.

When the 35-year-old man was released at about 10:15 Wednesday morning—where he’d spent the last three months for a previous arrest for harassment—jail staff apparently provided him with a pair of shoes.

For some reason, the man was very dissatisfied with his new footwear, and ran through traffic on 5th Avenue, grabbed handfuls of rocks and returned to the jail’s outdoor mezzanine. There, the man began hurling rocks at the jail’s large picture windows, shattering 11 of them, causing at least $11,000 in damage.

When King County Jail officers approached the man, he took off running. Police caught up to him on 3rd Avenue, where he fought with officers and was eventually Tasered by a corrections officer.

Seattle police took the man right back to jail and booked him for malicious mischief and assault.

No word on whether jail officials will eschew giving the man another pair of shoes next time around.
