Detectives Need Victims and Witnesses to Come Forward in Hate Crime

Hate Crime detectives are asking anyone who may have been a victim or a witness in the following malicious harassment incident from August 11, 2013 to come forward and talk to investigators.

On August 11th at approximately 9:14 p.m. officers responded to 911 calls of a “man with a gun” threatening people on the basketball courts at the Greenlake Community Center located in the 7200 block of East Greenlake Drive North.

Upon arrival officers acted quickly and decisively in order to render the scene safe — the suspect was in custody and under control just 12 minutes after the officers’ initial response to the 911 call.  Officers also recovered the suspect’s handgun used in the crimes.  Nobody was injured during the incident.

The suspect was booked into the King County Jail and has since been charged by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office with Assault 2nd degree and Malicious Harassment, both felonies.

More details on the incident are available in the linked charging documents (PDF).

Anyone with information about this incident or who may have been either a victim or a witness is asked to call the Seattle Police Homicide Tip Line at (206) 233-5000.

Anonymous tips are welcome.
