Assault Suspect in Custody After 90 Minute Stand Off

Officers peacefully resolved a stand off with a man wanted for stabbing his girlfriend with a kitchen knife this morning.

At approximately 8:03 a.m. officers responded to an apartment complex in the 12700 block of Lake City Way NE for the report of a domestic violence assault with a knife.  Preliminary investigation indicates that a man stabbed his girlfriend in the hand during a dispute and then fled the apartment.  Responding officers located the suspect hiding underneath a parked car in the parking garage of the apartment complex.  The suspect refused to come out from underneath the car.  Officers had information that led them to believe the suspect was armed with not only a knife, but also possibly a gun.

On-duty SWAT officers responded to the scene and shortly thereafter the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.

The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of her non-life-threatening stab wound.

The suspect will be booked into the King County Jail for Felony Domestic Violence Assault.

This remains an active and on-going investigation.
