Detectives arrested a suspect in the beating death of a South Seattle man

 A South Seattle man was beaten and later died. On 9/2/2013, just shortly after 11:00 p.m., the suspect was observed by witnesses assaulting a man in the 5100 block of S Henderson St during a verbal confrontation.

Witnesses told detectives that they observed the suspect choking the victim and banging his head repeatedly against the glass walls of a bus shelter. The suspect then punched the victim at least once and the victim fell to the ground, striking the back of his head on the concrete surface.

When witnesses tried to render aid to the injured man, the suspect yelled at them to mind their own business.  

The victim went to his home and within 48 hours after the assault, he was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.  Approximately a week later, the victim’s condition became critical and he slipped into a coma. The victim succumbed to his injuries on 9/19/2013.

Detectives attended the victim’s autopsy and learned that he suffered a subdural hematoma and a broken leg. On 10/3/2013, Detectives located and arrested the suspect.  Search incident to arrest, the suspect was found to have a loaded handgun on his person. The gun was later discovered to be a reported stolen by King County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect was also in possession of 70 vicodin pills (approx. $20 per pill), five baggies of suspect marijuana (approx. $20 per bag), one cigar (containing suspected marijuana), and misc. narcotics packaging material.

The suspect is a convicted felon and was aware that he cannot possess a firearm.

On 10/3/13, the suspect was booked into King County Jail for Investigation of Homicide.
