Officer Injured in Patrol Car Collision on Rainier Avenue South

Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) are attempting to reconstruct the events that led to a South Precinct officer losing control of his marked patrol car and colliding with a power pole and several park cars early this morning on Rainier Avenue South.

At about 1:20 this morning, the officer was travelling southbound on Rainier Avenue South approaching S. Garden Street.  For reasons not yet determined, the officer lost control of his patrol vehicle and struck a power pole.  The impact sheared the pole off at the base.  The patrol car then struck three parked unoccupied cars before coming to a rest against a tree.

Seattle Fire responded and treated the male officer at the scene.  He was transported to Harborview Medical Center with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

TCIS detectives responded and processed the scene on Rainier.  This remains an active, and on-going collision investigation.
