Man Grazed By Bullet In Rainier Ave Shooting

Gang detectives are investigating a shooting in Rainier Beach which left one man with a grazing gunshot wound.

Shortly before 7:30 pm Thursday night, police received reports of gunfire near Rainier Avenue S. and S. Fisher Place.

Several witnesses at the scene were reluctant to provide officers with many details about the incident, but said they had heard a disturbance just before shots rang out and a group of teens fled from a gas station along Rainier Ave.  Witnesses only provided police with a vague description of the gunman: a black male in his 20s, with a heavy build, who was wearing a black jacket.

Police found more than a dozen shell casings in the area, and seized a silver Dodge Charger, which had several smashed windows and was parked near the scene of the shooting.

While officers weren’t able to find any victims at the scene, a man walked into Harborview shortly after the incident with a gunshot wound to the back of his head.

After detectives went to the hospital to interview the man, he said he’d been walking down Rainier when a bullet grazed the back of his head. He told police he dove to the ground and got a friend to drive him to the hospital.
