Rather than letting a restaurant full of people enjoy their Moons Over My Hammy, Grand Slam breakfasts or other Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug-inspired menu items in peace, a very intoxicated man went from table to table harassing and threatening patrons at the SoDo Denny’s before police arrived and arrested him.
After the 36-year-old intoxicated man wandered into the Denny’s at about 7 pm Wednesday evening, he began harassing staff and patrons inside the restaurant, an employee later told police.
After ordering, the man wandered through the Denny’s uttering profane rants and hurling taunts at customers.
Nevertheless, staff allowed the suspect to finish and pay for his meal before asking him to leave.
When a waiter confronted the suspect to ask him to move along, the suspect grabbed a knife from a table, waved it around and held it up to the waiter before grumbling “let’s go!”
Cooler heads prevailed and the suspect finally agreed to leave. But, of course, he got into another confrontation on his way out of the restaurant, prompting Denny’s staff to call police.
Officers arrived, found the suspect sitting by the restaurant’s front door, and took him into custody.
While the suspect didn’t want to discuss the incident with officers, he did want to argue about his bill.
The man claimed he’d given staff $16 to pay his $9 bill, and demanded officers arrest employees for theft. Denny’s staff checked the man’s bill (which actually came to $12), and gave $4 to the suspect before police carted him off to jail and booked him for harassment, unlawful use of weapons and trespassing.
