South Precinct officers responded to the Rainier Beach Community Center last night around 5:20 pm to investigate a report of shots fired just outside of the building.
The incident began as a fight between two individuals. When a staff member from the community center walked outside to break it up, the victim ran off and the suspect ran off as well, firing a handgun into the air. The staff member went back inside the building and called 911. The community center decided to lock down while officers investigated. Officers located several shell casings in the street, but determined there were no injuries or any property damaged. The center reopened at 6:00 pm. Neither the victim or the suspect were located.
