Armed Felon arrested last night near Space Needle

An armed felon was arrested last night during the New Year’s Eve Fireworks show near the Space Needle. On 12/31/13, just shortly before midnight an officer was providing traffic control at his assigned traffic post at 4 Ave No. and Denny Way.  While there he was contacted by a citizen regarding a man who had a handgun in his waistband.

This suspect was standing amongst the New Year’s Eve revelers that were waiting for the fireworks display at the Space Needle.  The crowd around the suspect numbered in the hundreds.  The officer located this subject within the crowd and continued to watch him from a distance while he called for additional units.

Bicycle Officers arrive on scene.  They contacted the officer and were able to locate the suspect within the crowd.  The three officers were able to safely take the suspect into custody.

A loaded handgun was recovered from the suspect.  A records check indicated that this suspect was a convicted felon.  The 22-year-old suspect was booked into King County Jail for Investigation (VUFA) of Violation of the Uniform Firearms Act.
