Woman waiting for bus in South Seattle robbed of wallet and cellphone

A robber fled the scene in an orange cab. On 1/5/14, just shortly before 12:00 p.m., a 59-yr-old female was standing at a bus stop waiting on a bus at Beacon Av S and S. Columbian WY.  An unknown suspect ran up behind the victim and snatched her cell phone and wallet out of her hand. He then fled southbound on Beacon Ave S.

The victim pursued the suspect and was screaming for help as she tried to catch up to him. The suspect fled to S. Ferdinand St where he got into a waiting orange cab. A witness driving by saw the victim chasing the suspect and the suspect getting in to the orange cab.

The witness followed the cab for about four blocks before it stopped and the suspect got out and fled. Responding officers conducted an extensive search for the suspect with negative results. Before officers arrived on scene, the driver of the orange cab spoke with the witness and professed his innocence.

The cab driver told the witness that the suspect gave him $5 to wait for him. The suspect is described as an adult black male.

The victim was not injured.  The investigation continues.
