Man Lends Cell Phone, Favor Returned with Machete Whack to Head

Who needs enemies when you have friends like this?  On January 2nd, around 1:30 pm, a man and an acquaintance were in the International District hanging out.  The man asked to borrow the victim’s cell phone, but then refused to return it when he was done.  An argument ensued and the suspect pulled out a machete and swung at the victim’s head.  The 48-year-old  victim was struck once in the back of the head causing a small laceration.  The victim fled the area and called 911.  The victim was treated at the scene by SFD and later taken to Harborview Medical Center for stitches.  Police searched for the suspect but he was not located.

Robbery detectives were assigned the case.  Information developed during the investigation led to the identity of the 35-year-old suspect.  Detectives also learned that the suspect was currently in custody in the King County Jail on unrelated charges.

Yesterday afternoon the suspect was interviewed by detectives.  Following the interview he was re-booked into jail for Investigation of Robbery.  Detectives will continue to follow up on this case.
