Man Assaulted & Robbed Downtown, Suspect In Custody

A man was taken to the hospital after he was assaulted and robbed downtown just before Noon today.

At approximately 11:45 a.m. officers responded to a report of a robbery at 3rd Avenue and James Street. Preliminary investigation indicates that an adult male suspect assaulted another man on the sidewalk on the southwest corner of the intersection in an unprovoked attack. According to witnesses, the suspect punched the victim in the face, knocking him to the ground and then stole a cigarette from the victim before walking away. Early indications are that the suspect and victim were not known to each other.

Responding officers located the suspect walking into a building in the 500 block of 3rd Avenue and took him into custody.

The victim, a man believed to be in his 30’s, was transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment of his non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect is currently under arrest and will be booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Robbery.

This remains an active and on-going investigation.
