A reckless driver in North Seattle smashed through a guardrail and careened off an overpass onto the southbound lanes of I-5 late last night.
On March 8th at approximately 11:53 p.m. Seattle Police officers and Washington state troopers responded to I-5 southbound in North Seattle to investigate a rollover collision.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a man driving a 2008 silver Mazda 4-door sedan at excessive speed failed to negotiate a turn and left the roadway at the southwest corner of NE 80th Street and 2nd Avenue NE. The suspect drove over the curb, smashed and displaced a guardrail and went over the fence onto I-5. The vehicle landed in the southbound lanes of I-5, where it collided with a second vehicle and came to rest on its roof. The driver of the Mazda was transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment of his non-life-threatening injuries.
Upon further investigation the driver of the Mazda was cited for Reckless Driving.
