“They can no longer sell the cake.”

Officer Nic Abts-Olsen’s patrol car radio crackled to life on a baking hot Saturday afternoon as a dispatcher called for units to respond to an assault at the KFC in the 13200 block of Aurora Avenue North.

As Abts-Olsen and his partner Cliff Borjeson rolled to the scene, details of the sudden attack trickled in from dispatchers:”unknown male was throwing cake at employees” dispatchers informed the officers.“They can no longer sell the cake.”

After police arrived, employees said a man had walked into the store, threw a KFC-brand cake at them, and then left. No employees were struck by the confection.

Staff at the KFC were only able to provide a vague account of the suspect’s particulars: a black male with a thin build, wearing a blue t-shirt and grey sweatpants, possibly driving a blue vehicle.

Employees provided police with a much more vivid description of the cake:

“The cake was described as a lemon cake, yellow in color and circular and costs exactly $5.19,” Officer Nic Abts-Olsen wrote in a report.

Police searched the area, but without much to go on, officers were unable to give the suspect his just desserts.
