Felon Arrested After Trying to Run Over Police

Police arrested a 36-year-old man Thursday afternoon after he tried to run over several officers with his car and ended up crashing into a patrol vehicle just a block from the SPD East Precinct building on Capitol Hill.

Officers had been searching for the man, wanted on several felony warrants, and spotted him at 5:15 PM sitting in a black Mercedes Benz in the 1500 block of 13th Avenue. The suspect is believed to be the same person who drove his vehicle at an officer in September, almost striking her.

Three officers approached the car, which was idling, to talk to the suspect. When an officer opened the driver’s door, the suspect quickly backed his car out of the parking spot and then put it in drive and sped toward the officers, who had to jump out of the way. The man careened toward the parking lot exit and crashed into a patrol car, disabling it.

Police had to smash in the window of the driver’s door and force the man to tie a large, aggressive dog inside the car to the steering wheel, before they could remove the suspect and take him into custody. The dog was taken by Seattle Animal Control where it remains. The suspect was booked into King County Jail for multiple felony warrants.
