Drunken Man Assaults Park Ranger Near Pike Place Market

Two Seattle park rangers are recovering after being attacked by a man in Victor Steinbrueck Park Saturday afternoon.

The rangers were walking through the park when the 33-year-old suspect approached them. The intoxicated suspect stood within a foot of the park rangers and began yelling obscenities and threatened to throw one of the rangers over a railing, which would have resulted in a very far drop.  The suspect then punched a ranger in the mouth and pulled out a knife.

The rangers, with assistance from some park-goers, were able to hold the suspect on the ground until officers arrived.

Medics took the injured park ranger to Harborview Medical Center for jaw pain and small facial laceration. The suspect was booked into King County Jail for assault and harassment.
