Police Arrest Man and Woman After Long Standoff

Detectives spotted two felony suspects, a man and a woman, going into a house in the Broadview neighborhood Thursday afternoon prompting a nearly seven hour standoff before the suspects were arrested.

Detectives with the Major Crimes Task Force saw two suspects wanted in connection with auto thefts and a recent violent robbery enter an abandoned home near North 132 Street and Greenwood Ave North. The detectives quickly called for back-up, which surrounded the house containing the 29-year-old female and 32-year-old male suspect.

Students at nearby Broadview-Thomson Elementary School temporarily sheltered in place during the standoff.

Officers tried numerous tactics to try and coax the pair out safely. Officers attempted to contact the suspects by calling their cell-phones, using a loudspeaker, throwing a phone into the house and even having a family member ask on the loudspeaker for a peaceful resolution.

SWAT officers later deployed pepper spray into the house hoping to drive the felony suspects out. The suspects refused to communicate or cooperate as the standoff dragged on.

Police, having exhausted their options, finally entered the home and after much searching found the man and woman crawling out from dense brush against the house.

Officers arrested the pair without incident.

Detectives are interviewing both suspects now before they are booked into King County Jail.
