Officers Arrest Suspect In Rainier Gas Station Shooting

The suspect in Tuesday’s shooting at a Rainier Avenue gas station is in custody after officers spotted him Friday afternoon in South Seattle, driving a car emblazoned with his own name.

Police had been searching for the 39-year-old suspect since he shot another man in the face following an argument outside a gas station in the 7100 block of Rainier Avenue S.

Officers Matt Hurst and Chris Toman were on patrol in South Seattle around 2:30 PM Friday when the vanity plates on one particular car caught their attention near 48th Avenue S. and S. Rose Street.

The suspected gunman, officers discovered, was practically advertising his presence to police, driving around in a car with vanity plates featuring his own last name.

Police pulled him over, took him into custody, and contacted detectives.

SPD Homicide/Assault detectives will attempt to interview the 39-year-old man before booking him into the King County Jail.

The victim of the shooting remains hospitalized at Harborview Medical Center.
