Man Struck By Gunfire While Stopped At Traffic Light In South Seattle

Detectives are investigating after a man was struck by gunfire Monday evening while he was stopped at a traffic light near the New Holly neighborhood.

Officers were called to the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr Way South and  South Cloverdale Street just after 7 p.m. after receiving reports the 36-year-old victim had been shot twice while stopped at a traffic light.

Police spoke with several witnesses who reported hearing gunshots. However, they were unable to provide officers with a description of a suspect or identify the source of the gunfire. Police are also still working to determine whether the victim was the intended target of the shooting.

Medics transported the victim to Harborview Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.

Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators are leading the investigation and are asking anyone with information about this case to call (206) 233-5000.

Police have temporarily closed streets and rerouted traffic and transit between Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Renton Avenue S., from S. Thistle St. to S. Cloverdale St as detectives investigate the shooting.
