Homicide Investigation Under Magnolia Bridge

The suspect is now in custody after he was shot by a SWAT officer following a lengthy standoff with police.

At about 9:30 pm on August 24th officers responded to 911 calls of an assault near 15th Avenue West and West Garfield.  Officers arrived and located an adult male with serious injuries.  The victim directed officers toward under the Magnolia Bridge, stating that a man had assaulted a woman inside a tent.  When officers went to investigate, they located an adult female who had been beaten to death inside the tent.  A male suspect was in another tent nearby refusing to come out and still armed with a weapon.  The male victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Negotiators responded to the scene and attempted for the next several hours to convince the man to surrender peacefully.  He refused.  SWAT officers responded and one officer used his weapon when the suspect charged from his tent, striking him in the leg.  The suspect was taken into custody and the Seattle Fire Department medics immediately treated his injury.  The suspect was then transported to HMC for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury.

Homicide and CSI detectives are now resuming their investigation at the scene safely, while another group of detectives are investigating the officer-involved shooting.

More information will be available about this investigation once detectives are able to sort through the evidence and process the scene.
