Nine-Time Felon Caught By K9 After Rocketing Down Rainier

A Seattle police K9 team found a nine-time felon under a car early Sunday after officers spotted him speeding through South Seattle.

The 25-year-old man first caught the attention of SPD Gang Unit detectives Jon Huber and Ben Hughey around 1 AM when they noticed his green Dodge Dynasty rocketing down Rainier at about 70 miles per hour.

Detectives lost sight of the suspect after he sped through several red lights, but police caught up to him again in a parking lot in the 4400 block of Rainier. There, the suspect tried to speed away once again, but collided with a tree, setting off his vehicle’s airbags. The man climbed out of his car and ran off.

When detectives looked inside the car, they noticed a handgun with an extended magazine on the floor of the vehicle.

Detectives began searching for the man and called in K9 Officer Mark Wong and his partner Ziva to assist. Police (and Ziva!) found the man hiding underneath a parked car and took him into custody.

Officers found the man was wanted on a burglary warrant, and also discovered he has nine previous felony convictions–including auto theft, assault, robbery, and burglary–to his name, and is unable to legally possess a firearm. Officers booked him into the King County Jail for unlawful possession of a firearm.
