UPDATE: Two Arrested After Exchange of Gunshots in the Dunlap Neighborhood

ORIGINAL POST:

Officers are investigating after a man was shot in the hand while in a parking lot in Rainier Beach.

Witnesses began calling 911 just before 2 today after hearing shots fired in the 9200 block of Rainier Ave S.  Officers arrived quickly and found the 22-year-old victim in the parking lot suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the hand.

Officers spoke with witnesses who described a car speeding away immediately after the shooting.  Officers found that car crashed and upon further inspection found a firearm inside.

Officers continue to search the area for the suspects who were last described as a black male wearing a red sweatshirt.

This is an active investigation and this post will be updated as we get additional information.

UPDATE:

Two adult male suspects are in jail thanks to a quick response by Gang Unit Detectives Jones and Pinkerton, who were patrolling the neighborhood when the shooting occurred. It appears that the victim and the suspect actually exchanged gunfire, with the victim suffering the gunshot wound to the hand.

Detectives Jones and Pinkerton apprehended the suspect almost immediately following the shooting, near where it occurred. Detectives questioned the suspect and booked him into King County Jail.

Medics transported the victim to an area hospital for emergency care. Detectives learned about the victim’s role in the shooting and booked him into King County Jail as well, immediately following treatment.

Detectives questioned a third man who was present during the shooting and released him pending further investigation.

This information is preliminary and subject to change as the investigation proceeds.
