Police Investigating Two Overnight Shootings In Rainier Valley

Detectives are investigating two overnight shootings and a vehicle collision in the Rainier Valley.

Police first responded to reports of gunfire around 10:20 PM Wednesday in the 5100 block of S. Augusta Street, where a woman told officers a man had been shot in front of her home and had left the scene.

A short time later, a man arrived at Harborview Medical Center with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Gang Unit detectives responded to Harborview and interviewed the man, and continue to investigate.

Several hours later, around 1:40 AM Thursday, officers again responded to multiple calls of shots fired, this time in the 4400 block of South Graham Street.

At the scene, officers found a car had struck and sheared off half of a telephone pole, and found bullet damage to two vehicles and two homes on the block.

No one was injured by gunfire in the incident, but the female driver and male passenger in the crashed car were treated for minor injuries at the scene. The driver was later transported to HMC for further treatment of non-life threatening injuries from the collision.

Before the driver went to the hospital, she and the male passenger told investigators that they were driving westbound on South Graham Street from Rainier Avenue when the driver’s window and rear window shattered. The driver told officers this caused her to drive into the telephone pole.

Police identified and interviewed one man at the scene believed to have been involved in the shooting, and released him pending further investigation.

Detectives have not yet found a link between the two incidents, but both cases are still under active investigation by SPD’s Gang Unit.
